When I think about the things that have effects on our life, one of the first things that comes to mind is adolescence. As I have learned in my education courses, this time of a persons’ life can have a huge effect on their decision making and life choices for the rest of their life.
When I think about my own experience during this time, I realized that the thing that kept me grounded was having an idea to look to. Whether it was my career or just how I wanted to be happy in the future. A mentor whether it is a parent, teacher, coach or just a good friend is essential to a person success both academically and socially in these tough years. Being able to make mistakes and learn from them is the beauty of this time in a person’s life. It can go astray if a person does not have a good group of friends or an adult in their life to learn how to make the decisions possible.
In my role as a teacher, I hope to help students find these individuals or ideas in their own life and let them see how these values can help them no matter what they do when they are done with school. Students sometimes have the drive to do something but just don’t know the best way to do it and that’s where I come in. While at CSU I hope to acquire skills that will allow me to help my future students in the best way possible.

I share your vignette's goal as an aspiring teacher. Your Memory Vignette is easy to relate to personally. My friends and family helped me through my tough adolescent years. I did not have a teacher who helped me find these special individuals in my life, but I did have a few who helped me find life changing ideas and values. As English teachers, we will be able to do this through language. Language has influenced all of our lives and I hope to acquire the skills to communicate these influences on to students. Your Vignette does its job as it illuminates how language can have an impact on peoples' lives. As aspiring English teachers, we have all experienced many aspects of language and have learned how it can work and influence lives.
ReplyDeleteI think you will make a great teacher someday! You understand that impact that a good mentor can have on a teenager's life. And we all know that some kids have no positive adult influences in their lives, so that's where we step in, as future teachers. I think adolescents is a very crutial time. Thank God I had good friends that helped me stay on a good path socially. And it is thanks in part to great teachers that kept me on the right path academically. These teachers pushed me to be a better student, fired up my imagination, and eventually led me to want to become a teacher as well.
ReplyDeletewe talked about this in our group but I think having someone inspirational to look up to or learn from is extremely important in a persons life and I think as a teacher you will do a great job at that!! who has been your biggest inspiration or person to look up to in your life?
